Board of Governors - Election
The Annual Election of the Governors and Officers takes place prior to the Annual Meeting which is typically held in conjunction with the Annual Convention. The IASB Nominating Committee identifies potential candidates for the Board and prepares a Slate of Nominees for distribution to the membership approximately 45 days prior to the Annual Meeting (see Election Notice below). Members have an opportunity to nominate additional qualified persons (see Nomination Form below). If additional nominations are received, a ballot is created and mailed to each Member.
Qualifications & Expectations
To be qualified to file as a Board Governor Candidate:
- Candidate must be the owner or an employee of a Company that is a General Member.
- The company must have been a Member in good standing with IASB for at least one (1) year prior to the nomination.
Terms typically begin the 1st of the month following the annual meeting and are 3 years in length. Governors are expected to attend two in-person meetings a year (one in the Spring and one in the Summer) as well as two meetings held via conference call during the remainder of the year. Governors are responsible for their own travel expenses for the meeting with the exception of lodging at the Summer Board Meeting which is provided by IASB. Serving as a Governor is on a volunteer-basis without renumeration for their time or expenses (other than expenses approved by the board). In addition to providing leadership and strategic positioning for the organization, Governors participate in the governanance and some of the operational activities of the organization to assist in realizing the Mission of the organization. Governors are expected to abide by the United States laws and respective state laws governing nonprofit corporations as well as the Bylaws and Policies and Procedures of the organization.
Approximately 45 days prior to the Annual Meeting, the Annual Meeting & Election Notice is mailed to the voting representative for each member. Members may request a copy of the notice be emailed or faxed by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org (this benefit is available only during the 45 day time frame).
Members may nominate individuals for the board by submitting their nomination via the online form - click here to access the form (requires login). Before nominating an individual, the nominator should ensure that the individual meets the qualifications listed above, accepts the nomination and is prepared to serve on the board. The deadline for nominations for the current year (2017) is April 13.
